January 25th, 2025: Rattle Snake Canyon

Rattlesnake Canyon is a moderate run that just about anyone with high clearance and 4 wheel drive can run.

Saturday morning, Sons of Thunder (SOT) met at 9:00am in Landers, CA right of highway 247 at the trailhead to Rattlesnake Canyon (34.37005, -116.65065).  The weather was a little chilly at first, probably in the low 40's but eventually warmed up and turned out to be a decent day in the mid 60's.  Four rigs showed up for the day run; Tim and his brother Jeremy in the blue 392 JL, Mark and his grandson Luke in the silver JK, Hector in the red JK and our trailboss Matt in the tan TJ.  After meeting up, we aired down at about 9:15am and had a quick drivers meeting and prayed over the group and the day.  We hit the trail shortly thereafter hoping and expecting a calm fun run out in God's creation.  As the trail wound through the canyon we gained a little elevation and began to see water and ice on the trail, which is always nice in the middle of the desert.  Eventually we stopped at the trailhead to Mottino Wash so some of the crew could check out how gnarly it is, while others were looking forward to running it the next time we're out there (34.275421, -116.662532) .  It was at this point we ran into a couple of rigs from 4x4Him, another Christian 4 wheel drive club out of the Bakersfield chapter.  After a little chat, we climbed into our rigs, buckled up and headed out until we stopped for lunch a little while later at an old abandoned shack.  When our bellies were satisfied, we continued on through the canyon coming to the section that is full of old and beautiful Joshua Trees and on to where the trail ends.  Once completed, we took the dirt roads down through the town of Rimrock where we aired up and parted ways.  Until next time!
