About Us (to see our current brochure, click on "about us")

"About" is page 1, "us" is page 2

Sons of Thunder 4 Wheelers was started in 1989. We schedule numerous activities for families, all age groups, and year around action for every type of vehicle.

Sons of Thunder provides assistance in natural disasters such as floods, fires, and earthquakes. We are also involved in community service projects such as feeding needy families, juvenile outreach and missionary expeditions to countries south of the border.

The Goal and Purpose of the club is to bring together people with the same interest in off-roading. Being a Christian is not a requirement for involvement in the club.

Discussed possible change of plans for February run due to Fires.  Will monitor situation, but it appears at present Gold Mountain and John Bull are still open

Election of officers:  Matt is the new treasurer, David secretary and web design.  Nobody stepping up to the plate for President or Vice President.  Put off final decision until Christmas party.

Christmas party on December 14th or 15th.  Still checking our calendars, but it will be at Tony's.  USABLE white elephant gifts only PLEASE. Pot luck.  If the party is on Friday, probably 7:30, but 5:30 if on Saturday.  Still working out details.  Check the web for updates, and possible food signup.

Doug wanted to go to Denny's, but not much interest, so we adjourned.

Doug, Matt and Tony going out to Calico the following day to catch the meteor shower Sunday morning.

Meeting began at 7:32

Discussion of upcoming campout/run

We are camping at the cabin at Coon Creek.  If you aren't camping with us Friday night, but are joining us Saturday morning for the run, we will be meeting at the Discovery Center at 7:00 a.m. and rolling out for Gold Mountain after a drivers meeting and airing down, at 7:30 a.m.. We plan on running Gold Mountain and Holcomb Creek.  Then, after a potluck back at the cabin, there is talk of a night run of John Bull!

Bring some money if you are camping at Coon Creek Cabin to help split the cost of the cabin/campground rental.  The cost depends on how many stay.

AN ADVENTURE PASS WILL BE NEEDED FOR THIS EVENT.  They can be obtained at most sporting good stores, except, I understand, Big 5.

A discussion of offroading tips was made concerning www.sidekickoffroad.com.  Also see our "equipment" page for some links to other helpful offroading videos.

Next meeting is September 21st, and we will set next years events and take nominations for officers for next year.  Matt and Doug need a break from leadership duties.

Doug closed in prayer at 8:19

There were meetings in May, June, and July, but the secretary, me, was absent due to family health issues.

APRIL

Meeting began at 7:40

There were 8 in attendance.  Rainy weather.

Doug, David, Paul, Steve, Duke, Neal, and "potential" new members Ron and Trina who were at Calico with us last month.

Discussed Calico campout and basically decided to camp at KOA again next year for this event.  The restrooms and meeting room are a plus.  Boy Scouts who joined us had fun and are still talking about it.

OLD BUSINESS:

Habitat for Humanity:  Chino Hills coming soon. No dates as of yet.

Holcomb Creek:  The tree has been moved.

Missionary Trips:  David has e-mailed his contact in Ensenada, but the mailbox is full.  Will keep trying.

NEW BUSINESS:

Details for Holcomb Creek run on May 12th posted on website.  Mother's Day is the 13th.  Need to plan better next year!

Doug adjourned the meeting at 8:25.  He was heading out to Calico and nobody seemed interested in Denny's.

MARCH

Meeting began at 7:40

Due to Doug's wife' birthday, Matt chaired the meeting.

There were 12 in attendance: Matt, Anthony, Jim, Paul, Mike, Bill, David, Mike, Dennis, Matt, and Bill and Linda.

OLD BUSINESS:

Jim went on the Calico Cleanup last month.  Said there were over 900 participants by some accounts.  Very well organized! Took away several very large loads of trash, cleaned up graffiti, etc..  A "must do" for next year!

No new information available on:

Kids on Public Lands:  still waiting for more information.

Habitat for Humanity:  Paul is in contact and working on it.

ACTION NEEDED ON:

We still need to get up to Holcomb and check out that tree on the trail

NEW BUSINESS:

Discussion started on "missionary trips south of the border" possibilities. It's been a while and it's in our "About Us" statement.

CALICO CAMPOUT March 30-April 1

Details posted on website under calendar section.

We will be buying food for the BBQ after the Saturday runs.  We aren't sure how many will be there for the festivities so driving into Barstow for "grub" seems like the best plan.  Doug's idea on e-ring.

Riverside Rough Riders will be joining us, and the discussion was to open the raffle up to all present.  If they are with us on the run, then they should join us for the dinner and raffle afterwards.

Also, some of the boy scouts will be joining us for at least one run.  Insurance information needed on the drivers who they will be riding with ASAP!

Matt called Doug on his cell phone so the club could sing "Happy Birthday" to the wife, but his phone was turned off.  :^(

Meeting adjourned 8:25, Bill closing in prayer.  Everyone hung around until 8:40 when we headed home.  No Denny's this month.

FEBRUARY

Meeting began at 7:35,

Attendance only 9 this month:  Doug, Matt and his wife, Mike, Ron, David, Heather, Dennis and his wife.

Paul was out of town so discussion of Habitat for Humanity put off until he gets back

Doug taking care of Calico Campground Reservations for the meeting center.

Everyone call KOA at Calico and make reservations.  If you do it online there is no space assigned, then we can get together when we arrive!

http://koa.com/where/ca/05233/

Mike and David are driving out to the Old Dale Mining District on Sunday, north of Joshua Tree to break in David's new tires.

Doug is going to try and run Cleghorn Saturday if he can get some company.

There is no maintenance plan for Holcomb Creek Trail published by the Forestry Department as of yet, so the Rough Riders and us are on our own as far as trail maintenance goes.

Jim called from Calico, where the "Clean Up" was happening this weekend.  It appears he's the only one from the club going.  Doug had something come up, and David decided that with an estimated 700 showing up for the clean up, the following weekend might make more sense to need a clean up.  Besides, with 700 showing up, the trails are going to look like traffic on the 91, and I get enough of that without going out and look for it.

Meeting adjourned to Denny's at about 8:15.  Short and sweet.

Ron's comment about sums it up: "Glad I didn't miss this one!" or something like that!

JANUARY:

Meeting began shortly after 7:30-new start time.

Matt opened in prayer-our guest.

In attendance, 20 plus two little ones: Doug, Matt, David, Ron, Nathan, Adam, Mike, Sean, Anthony, Anthony, Bill, Paul, Steve, Heather, Deborah, Hector and daughter, and guests Ron and Matt.  I believe Matt joined.

Paul and Doug relate there recent camping and offroading trip to Calico, where it was very cold, day and night.

Bill did a solo trip to Gold Mountain and had snow and rough going.

Matt discussed breaking things on John Bull.

Discussed Gold Mountain trip for Feb 3.  Meeting at Fawnskin for breakfast at 7:00-(Gas up before heading up the hill or bring gas.) Meeting at the Discovery Center at 8:30 for drivers meeting and air down for those not meeting for breakfast.  Looks like at least 8 rigs will be going.

Discussed Calico Cleanup planned for Feb 17th.

Reminder: $15 raffle tickets on sale for winch.  Will be given away at Calico Campout (see calendar section)

Also discussed "Habitat for Humanity" and "Kids on Public Lands" involvement.

Doug notifying KOA at Calico to arrange for campout.

Doug closed in prayer.

Meeting adjourned to Denny's at  8:30
